Volunteering with the Urban
Ecology Center at Riverside Park this spring has brought me in contact with a
group of people passionate about preserving urban wild spaces in my
community. The organization
has opportunities for everyone: elementary school
children, outdoor enthusiasts, researchers, gardeners, and all characters in between. In line
with their mission statement, every event is designed to create ecological
understanding and inspire individuals to adopt environmentally sustainable
behaviors and lifestyles.
I have had the privilege of involvement in land management, park beautification, citizen science projects, and promotion of sustainable transportation. These projects have brought people from various walks of life together for the purpose of bettering themselves, building community, and preserving natural resources. I plan to continue serving my community through the Urban Ecology Center for as long as I am able.
